Southwest Airlines Flights To St. Thomas USVI Start In 2026

Southwest Airlines will launch daily nonstop service from Orlando International to the Cyril E. King International Airport (STT) in St. Thomas, and from Baltimore/Washington International to STT in early 2026. The new routes are expected to boost tourism by strengthening travel routes from Central Florida and the Mid-Atlantic to the USVI. Flight tickets are now available at Southwest.com.

930,000 flights landed in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2024, making it one of the most popular tropical vacation destinations in the world, which is the reason Southwest Airlines announced this new nonstop service to St. Thomas. St. Thomas will be Southwest’s ninth Caribbean island destination overall, joining Aruba, The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Turks and Caicos Islands.

Another Flight Option To Virgin Islands Is Good Timing

St. Thomas has logged record numbers of visitors in recent years, which makes it perfect timing for U.S. mainland tourists to have another travel option into St. Thomas (STT), the main gateway into the Virgin Islands. St. Thomas is considered the easiest Virgin Island to fly into, and is often a waypoint to smaller islands like St. John.

Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas is the largest airport in the Virgin Islands, whereas the smaller Islands are less developed with no airports, like St. John, or have a smaller airport with far fewer flights coming in, like St. Croix’s STX.

A Big Welcome

The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism welcomes Southwest’s new plans as a boon to improved air connectivity.

"We are excited at the announcement of new airlift into St. Thomas with Southwest Airlines," said Commissioner Joseph Boschulte of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism in this press release.

Potential Southwest Departure Cities To STT, USVI

Although only two cities have been named by Southwest that will fly passengers from the mainland USA to the USVI, a complete list of departure cities could expand beyond major Southwest hubs like Baltimore and Orlando. Dallas Love Field (DAL) and Atlanta (ATL) are also other airports to keep an eye on in the future.
