Popular British Virgin Islands Destinations from St. John:

St. John to Tortola BVI

Distance: 15 miles | Duration: 15 - 45 minutes

While it only takes 15-30 minutes to get to Tortola from St. John by charter boat  (almost faster than flying from St. Thomas), this island serves as the capital of the BVI, and is near The Baths in Virgin Gorda, which is the most popular destination to visit. Tortola’s northside boasts some of the most beautiful, white sand beaches in the BVI as well as some interesting volcanic rock shorelines. Smugglers Cove

St. John to The Baths
at Virgin Gorda

Distance: 20 miles | Duration: 1-1.5 hours

The Baths at Virgin Gorda are one of our most requested BVI charters. The granite batholith (from where the name of this place comes) that eroded into clusters of large boulders, some up to 40 ft. in length, create a maze of pure exploration where tourists can relax in the warm tidal pools below the boulders or explore the caves, tunnels, and arches that make this place a natural wonder.

St. John to Jost Van Dyke

Distance: 8 miles | Duration: 25 minutes

Jost Van Dyke is a popular stop on any classic island hopping route for beach lovers and partygoers. One of the most notable destinations is Soggy Dollar Bar, which is where the Painkiller cocktail originated back in the 1970s, and spread from there. When guests sip on a Painkiller cocktail at Soggy Dollar Bar, they experience significant mixologist history that every fun aficionado should know, and the best Painkiller in the world, all in the seconds it takes to take a few sips. From there you can visit Great Harbour for Beach BBQ at Foxy’s or the fresh fish sizzling on nearly every local grill. Stuffed, and a little woozy, there’s always Bubbly Pool, a natural tidal pool, where guests slip in and forget that world news and the concept of work ever existed.

St. John to The Caves
at Norman Island

Distance: 6 miles | Duration: 35 minutes

Norman Island is known for inspiring Robert Louis Stevenson to write the world’s best known pirate novel, Treasure Island. Norman Island is the quintessential island depicted in pirate stories and fairy tales. For those adventurers, you can pretend to be a pirate yourself and snorkel into The Caves at Norman. The Indians are also here, where snorkelers can see colorful coral reefs teeming with marine life. The most popular restaurant here is aptly named β€œPirates Bight” where of course the menu includes world class meat dishes that pirates would love.
For example:

Grilled Mahi-Mahi Sandwich - US$22

Pan-Fried Snapper - US$26

Grilled Tuna - US$27

Angus Grass-Fed Ribeye of Beef - US$40

Another popular spot off of Norman Island is the infamous Willy-T! The popular floating bar and restaurant where guests can jump off the top deck for an adrenaline rush and a pirate tattoo.

St. John to Cooper Island & Smaller Private Cays

Distance: 15 miles | Duration: 45 min - 1 hour

Cooper Island in the British Virgin Islands is where the yachts cruise, and while it is one of the smallest islands (part of the Little Sisters chain of islands) with only 26 people living there permanently, it features a beach resort some enjoy visiting. The Copper Island Beach Club is a boutique resort completely self sustained offering a unique eco luxury experience.

Peter Island, Salt Island, and Ginger Island are also part of the eastern BVI that make up the Little Sister chain.
