    • U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain and approved safety equipment to keep you, your friends and your family safe.

    • Professional grade snorkelling equipment for all sizes (including children) as well as snorkel belts, pool noodles, mask defogger, fish identification books and other water toys.

    • 125qt Yeti cooler stocked with ice and drinking water. Swig tumblers for mixing up your favourite cocktails and beer koozies for keeping those cans cold.

    • Top of the line JL AUDIO sound system with subwoofers and bluetooth connectivity.

    • Fresh water rinse and plenty of dry storage to keep your gear secure and organized.

    • The boat has a large boarding platform and easy to use ladder to get in and out of the water. Comfortable wrap-around cushioned seating in the bow and plenty of shaded seating in the stern under our extended bimini.

  • Fuel, food and drink, and gratuity.

  • Please note: Island Roots Charters does not visit the fuel dock at the end of the day like most other boats. This allows you 30 or more extra minutes on the water, snorkeling and exploring. Instead, we charge a flat rate for fuel depending on where our travels take us for the day. As you prepare for your trip, please make yourself aware of the variable fuel expense which is billed at the end of the trip.

    • Hans Lollik, Magens Bay, North-side of St. Thomas $350-$400

    • Water Island, South-side of St. Thomas $350-$400

    • Circumnavigate St. Thomas $400-$425

    • Golden Hour trips $125-$200

  • You're welcome to bring your own lunch (which can save time & expense) but we'd encourage you to try some of the fun water-based establishments that have become part of the charter circuit.

    Options include:

Lime Out, Pizza Pi, Lovango Beach Club, Sunset Grill, Dingy's Beach Bar and more!

  • Our insurance does not allow us to provide alcohol but you are most welcome to bring your own. We provide a large Yeti cooler stocked with ice and bottled drinking water. You are welcome to stock the cooler with whatever adult beverages you like. Cans over glass bottles are preferred.

  • Yes, gratuity is customary in the VI and appreciated for a job well done! Your captain has a lot of responsibility for making sure you have a fun and safe day. If you feel generous enough to tip, the industry standard is 15-25% of the total expense. Cash is preferred.

    • Sunglasses, hat and a long sleeve loose fit rash guard to protect yourself from the sun

    • Towel or "quick dry" towel (aka... sham wow) to dry off after you exit the water

    • Spare change of clothes in case you feel like hitting up happy hour after the boat trip

    • Reef-Safe sunscreen, please do not use aerosol sunscreen as it turns the seat cushions and gel coat on the boat orange and kills the coral reefs!

    • Money for lunch

  • In 2019 the USVI Legislature unanimously passed a bill that bans the sale, distribution, and import of sunscreen products containing oxybenzone and octinoxate; chemicals that devastate coral and marine life and are known carcinogenic and hormone disruptors in humans. We support this effort by requiring all guests on charter to use non-aerosol, reef-safe sunscreen. Safe options are mineral-based sunscreens that contain Titanium and Zinc Oxide. Just because the label says “reef safe” doesn’t mean it is. Please read the ingredients.

  • We provide complimentary pick-up and drop-off at the National Park Visitor Center Dock in Cruz Bay, St. John. (Alternative locations are available by special request made during the booking process.) We recommend unloading your group and gear at the small square parking lot across from Morgan’s Mango and Margarita Phil’s restaurants. Then have one person go and park the car.

  • Parking is often difficult and time-consuming. There are a number of free and pay to park areas throughout Cruz Bay. However, we strongly recommend using the paid parking services at the "Lumber Yard." Convenient and VERY close to the NPS Dock (2-minute walk), it's hassle-free, safe and worth the expense. You will receive a 15% off coupon code for the Lumber Yard parking lot in your booking confirmation email.

  • You’ll find that it tends to rain occasionally in the early morning, and though it might look like it will last all day, things almost always clear up by the time we leave. We monitor the weather VERY closely. Should the skies not clear by the time of your charter, we’ll do our best to reschedule your trip to a different day or arrange for your charter on a later date with friends of ours in the industry that have availability or lastly, call it off and wish for better luck next time.

  • No, however, we are never very far from a land-based facility. We would always recommend using a land-based bathroom over a boat bathroom as the latter tends to be a very small, tight space with delicate plumbing. There are clean, public restroom facilities you can use before and after your charter located next to the National Park Visitor Center dock as well.

  • Should anything in your travel plans change, please let us know as soon as possible. We only take a $100 easily refundable deposit to book your charter. You can cancel up to 48 hours before the trip's departure and receive a full refund of your deposit. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the trip's departure will forfeit their deposit. Cancellations made inside of 24 hours will be charged for the full charter fee discussed. Weather-related cancellations will be refunded in full or, if possible, rescheduled with Island Roots Charters or an affiliated charter company on a different day.
