The Ultimate Day Charter Checklist

Day charters are great for families that love the water, adventure, and travel. They're also perfect for those who enjoy spending quality time together while exploring new places. Day charters with Island Roots Charters are always a breeze. Below we sum up some of our top tips to ensure your day on the water is nothing but sun, fun, and smooth sailing.

Know Where You're Going

Before you head out on your next trip, make sure you've got everything you need. This includes packing the right clothes, having enough money, knowing where you're going, and making sure you have all the necessary equipment.

Island Roots Charters is equipped to take you to many different locales, it all just depends on what you are wanting to experience!

From staying in our local waters, to heading over to the British Virgin Islands there are options for everyone. You can read about all of the destinations and where to go on our website/itineraries.

Have All Necessary Gear Ready

If you're planning a day charter, you'll need to pack the right gear. We suggest that you have the following items before you leave:

  • Reef safe SPF

  • Sunglasses

  • A hat

  • Rash guards

  • Camera

  • Water bottle

  • Phone charger

  • Other beverages

  • Towels

  • Snacks

  • Cash

  • Bug spray

  • Any other supplies you might need

Also keep in mind that when booking a USVI boat charter, certain companies will provide some of these items for you. Here at Island Roots Charters, we provide all of the safety gear needed, as well as noodles for the kids (and adults) and other items you can enjoy!

Something else you might want to consider is putting together a boat playlist. If that is not really your jam, we have music to play as well. Lastly, don't forget your desire for adventure!

Pack Lightly

Be sure to bring the essentials and everything you need, but don't go overboard and bring more than that. Five outfit changes, for example, is unnecessary for a day charter.

We have plenty of room onboard to store everyone’s belongings but packing lightly is always so much more convenient for all.

Plus, less lugging around heavy bags at the dock before and after the trip for you!

Don't Forget the Kids

Make sure to pack appropriately for the kids as well. If you have a baby, things like water diapers, and formula or milk can be stored easily onboard.

Also, plenty of baby reef-safe sunscreen, rash guards, and hats are crucial for their sensitive skin. Be sure to pack healthy snacks for your children. The best snacks for toddlers and up are chopped up fruits and veggies, cheese, and crackers.

There are many restaurant options (such as Lime Out VI) on the various islands as well but it's always nice to have those snacks just in case.

Those are some of our top tips to have the best day charters experience possible. Now, if you’re ready to book your private island charter, let’s plan your day!
